Livestock farmers in Lebap region have completed the autumn shearing of sheep, obtaining 341 tons and 860 kilograms of wool, Turkmenistan newspaper reported on Tuesday.
The autumn shearing was carried out at central wells of livestock farms, with nearly 200 experienced shepherds taking part. Dozens of young people also join the work each year, while specialists supervise their proper use of shearing equipment.
Shepherds from the Jeyhun livestock association also achieved good results during the shearing campaign. Teams led by Arslan Tashliyev and Weyis Nazarov not only collected wool but also achieved positive results in producing lambs and kids.
According to Hanjar Yarov, chief specialist at the Lebap Regional Livestock and Poultry Production Association, sheep feel better after the autumn shearing. This helps create favorable conditions for good results during the breeding season held in October.
Turkmenistan also provides incentives for shepherds. During the lambing season, they receive half of the lambs produced as payment for their work, while they receive all the wool produced during the autumn shearing. Shepherds are also allowed to graze their own livestock together with the respective herds free of charge.
