Energy security, rising electricity demand and supply diversification were among the main topics at the Gastech 2026 international conference, which is being held in Bangkok from Sept. 14-17. About 50,000 energy sector professionals, 1,000 exhibiting companies and representatives from more than 150 countries are taking part. Key topics include investment, infrastructure, natural gas and LNG, artificial intelligence and energy technologies, forum’s organizer, Turkmen Energy Forum reported.

According to the report, having significant energy resources alone does not ensure the creation of economic value. Projects require processing capacity, pipelines and other infrastructure, as well as financing, technology, stable commercial mechanisms and access to long-term markets.

Valérie Ducroix, executive director of the Global Gas Centre, emphasized the importance of creating clear and stable conditions that allow energy projects to be connected with investors. She said it is also necessary to strike a balance between energy security, energy affordability, economic development and environmental goals.

Joseph Murphy of Petroleum Economist noted in his analysis a renewed interest in long-term gas supply agreements following periods of market volatility. Buyers are seeking greater predictability in physical supplies and prices, while producers need commercial certainty to develop capital-intensive projects.

These trends provide an international context for Turkmenistan’s investment agenda. According to the report, the fourth phase of development of the Galkynysh gas field involves drilling production wells and creating new gas processing facilities designed to produce about 10 billion cubic meters per year. The project will require engineering, equipment supplies, oil and gas services, gas processing, digital technologies and related infrastructure.

The Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, with a designed capacity of 33 billion cubic meters per year, is another major infrastructure project linked to supplying Turkmen gas to South Asian markets, according to the report. Investment opportunities also include gas processing and petrochemicals. Technologies used in the sector include field modeling, predictive analytics, digital twins and automation.

These topics will be presented at the 31st International Conference and Exhibition “Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan – OGT 2026,” which will be held in Ashgabat on Oct. 21-23. Energy companies, investors, financial institutions, technology suppliers and engineering companies will participate in the event.
