Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov sent a letter of condolences to Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev over a tragic incident in the Mangystau region that resulted in deaths and injuries, Turkmenistan’s official media reported Friday.
In his letter, the Head of state expressed, on behalf of the people and government of Turkmenistan and on his own behalf, his heartfelt condolences and words of support to the families and loved ones of those who died, as well as wishes for a speedy recovery to those injured.
According to official Kazakh information, the incident occurred during military training exercises in the Mangystau region. Seventeen military personnel were caught in an emergency situation in open waters after weather conditions suddenly deteriorated and winds intensified. Fourteen of them died and three were rescued.
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev also expressed condolences to the families and loved ones of the military personnel who died in the tragedy and instructed a relevant commission to take the necessary measures to determine the circumstances of the incident and provide assistance to the families of the victims.
