Turkmenistan has granted residence permits to 146 people whose individual applications had been registered, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov reported this at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers and the State Security Council on Friday, according to the Turkmenistan’s official media.
According to the report, those recommended for residence permits are citizens of seven countries and representatives of 16 ethnic groups. Of them, 99 are women and 47 are men.
To implement the state policy based on the humanitarian principles of the President of Turkmenistan, the authorized state bodies of Turkmenistan regularly conduct relevant work to consider individual applications from foreign citizens wishing to permanently reside in Turkmenistan.
According to the report, to date, residence permits in Turkmenistan have been granted to 5,294 foreign citizens and stateless persons.
The report also highlighted the importance of cooperation with the United Nations and its specialized agencies, particularly the Office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees. As part of this cooperation, measures are being taken to prevent and reduce statelessness, ensure legal protection for people and share Turkmenistan’s experience in this area internationally. In this regard, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov submitted a draft document to the Head of state for consideration.
After hearing the report, the Head of state noted that Turkmenistan was implementing effective measures in this area while protecting human rights and freedoms. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov also signed the Resolution “On Granting Residence Permits in Turkmenistan” and instructed the Deputy Prime minister and Foreign Minister to carry out the relevant work.
