President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov attended the opening ceremony of the 1,200-seat Ahal-Teke horse complex of the President of Turkmenistan in the foothills of the Kopetdag Mountains. The ceremony was held during celebrations marking the 35th anniversary of independence, Turkmen state media reported.
Speaking at the ceremony, the National Leader of the Turkmen people recalled that, according to excavations in Ancient Merv, the history of Turkmen horses dates back more than 5,000 years. Quoting the saying “My horse — my wings,” Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said the new complex would inspire the achievement of great goals.
President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov toured the indoor arena, where athletes gave equestrian and show-jumping performances, as well as a demonstration by the Galkynysh National Equestrian Games Group. Turkmen President said the Turkmen horse is a national heritage and pride of the people and is admired around the world.
The complex has created conditions for year-round keeping of Ahal-Teke horses, their breeding and selection on a scientific basis. Laboratories operate for breeding selection, health assessment and the study of the animals’ physiology, while a separate building is intended to preserve purebred status and increase the number of horses. A digital system in the administrative building makes it possible to monitor the horses’ living conditions, feeding and sleep-wake schedules.
The sports facilities include open and indoor arenas, racing tracks, stands, a venue for Ahal-Teke beauty contests, stables and a water treadmill. The indoor arena meets international standards and can host championships, including show-jumping competitions. A photo studio with decorations representing the four seasons is available for visitors.
Apples, carrots and alfalfa are grown on the grounds for feed, while warehouses have been built to store supplies for the winter. A fully modernized road with new lighting leads to the complex.
The celebration program included a procession of 35 riders, which the National Leader launched, an Alabay beauty contest, the national wrestling competition goresh and horse races among master jockeys representing all regions and the cities of Ashgabat and Arkadag.
