Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to visit Turkmenistan this week to participate in two international events, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei made the announcement at a news conference in Tehran on Oct. 4, IRNA reported.
According to Baghaei, Pezeshkian will attend a summit of heads of state on the Caspian Sea environment and a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States as a special guest in the Avaza National Tourist Zone.
According to the Turkmen state media, a meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers is scheduled for Oct. 7 in the Avaza National Tourist Zone. A Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and the Republic of Azerbaijan will be held Oct. 8, followed by a meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State on Oct. 9.
Turkmenistan holds the CIS chairmanship in 2026. The decision to transfer the chairmanship to Turkmenistan and hold the next meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State in the country on Oct. 9 was made following the 2025 meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State.
