A resident of Hendekli village in Lebap province’s Danev district, Eziz Khalbaev, achieved an unusual result on his household plot by growing 28 corn cobs on a single plant, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported Saturday.

Khalbaev’s result came close to the record of Matt Giacovelli of Deptford, New Jersey, who grew 29 corn cobs on a single plant. The achievement was officially recorded in the Guinness World Records in 2019 in the category for the most corn cobs on a single plant.

Khalbaev works as a teacher at a secondary school, where he teaches chemistry and ecology. He said he had not set out to break a record. On a small plot, he planted four corn plants two meters apart so cucumber vines could grow on them. Strong winds knocked down three of the plants, leaving only one stalk. He did not provide it with any special care, but later noticed that it had produced many cobs. According to Khalbaev, he initially counted 19 cobs, and the number later increased.

Lebap region has previously recorded an unusual agricultural yield. In autumn 2020, a giant cucumber grown by Hemra Babaev in the Lebap province’s Sayat district weighed 20 kilograms and 134 grams, measured 96 centimeters in length and had a circumference of 85 centimeters at its thickest point.
