Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting, following which they signed an Agreement on the Establishment of the Supreme Council of Strategic Partnership, the press service of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

At the beginning of the meeting, Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated Serdar Berdimuhamedov on the 35th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence, as well as on Turkmenistan’s chairmanship of the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and Azerbaijan and the Commonwealth of Independent States.

Particular attention at the meeting was paid to further deepening Uzbek-Turkmen strategic partnership relations. The sides noted positive dynamics in trade and economic cooperation. Since the beginning of the year, trade turnover has shown steady growth, while the Shavat-Dashoguz cross-border trade zone has been operating successfully.

The importance of adopting an Action Plan to significantly increase mutual trade and a Program for Cooperation in industry, energy, transport, agriculture and water management was also emphasized, including at the regional level between the two countries.

Following the meeting, the sides signed an Agreement on the Establishment of the Supreme Council of Strategic Partnership, which provides an institutional framework for further deepening political dialogue and expanding practical cooperation in priority areas.
