Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Turkmenbashi on Thursday, the press service of the President of Azerbaijan reported.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the development of bilateral relations and expansion of cooperation in the political, economic, transport, transit, logistics, cultural and humanitarian spheres. They also discussed issues related to the Caspian Sea and cooperation within international organizations.
The sides noted the important role of mutual high-level visits in developing bilateral relations. In particular, it was noted that five high-level visits between the two countries have taken place since last year.
The sides separately emphasized the role of the eighth Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and Azerbaijan in strengthening the partnership between Azerbaijan and the countries of the region, expanding regional cooperation and discussing issues of mutual interest. Ilham Aliyev noted the high level of organization of the event.
The Azerbaijani President also once again expressed gratitude for the unanimous support for Azerbaijan’s admission last November as a full member of the format of the Consultative Meetings of the Heads of State of Central Asia. He noted that the initiative was put forward by Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan.
During the meeting, the heads of state exchanged views on prospects for developing bilateral cooperation and other issues of mutual interest.
