The State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) is interested in participating in projects to develop promising oil and gas fields in Turkmenistan, Azerbaijani Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov made the remarks at an event marking the 35th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence, the Report news agency reported.

Turkmen oil is transported through Azerbaijan to international markets, according to Jabbarov. He also highlighted the key role of cooperation between the two countries in improving the efficiency of the Middle Corridor. Transit cargo volumes continue to increase year by year, he added.

“Turkmenistan has modern transport infrastructure, while Azerbaijan has made significant investments in its seaport, railway network and other logistics facilities. We firmly believe that joint efforts in this area will bring substantial benefits to the entire region,” the minister stressed.

Jabbarov also said that during the ninth meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, held in Ashgabat in July 2026, the two sides discussed strengthening cooperation in trade and the economy, energy, transport, agriculture, food security, environmental protection and other areas, according to Report.

Cooperation between the two countries also creates opportunities to establish joint ventures and industrial complexes and implement projects to process natural resources, Jabbarov said.
