Azerbaijan sees potential for cooperation with Turkmenistan in the electricity sector, including exploring the possibility of exporting Turkmen electricity to European countries through Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani Deputy Energy Minister Kemal Abbasov reported during a plenary session of the Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan 2026 (OGT 2026) international conference in Ashgabat.
Speaking about regional energy cooperation, Abbasov highlighted efforts by Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to develop the Central Asia-Azerbaijan energy corridor. The project envisages transmitting electricity generated from renewable sources in Central Asia through Azerbaijan to European markets.
In this context, Azerbaijan sees opportunities to expand electricity cooperation with Turkmenistan. According to Abbasov, the two sides could explore the possibility of exporting electricity generated in Turkmenistan to European countries through Azerbaijan.
Abbasov expressed confidence that continued dialogue between governments and energy companies would help turn this potential into concrete results.
