Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, discussed prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation and regional and international relations during a meeting in Ashgabat, Iran’s IRNA news agency reported.

The sides reviewed the current state of relations between Ashgabat and Tehran and emphasized the importance of making use of existing potential to develop cooperation in the political and economic fields.

According to Meredov, the historical ties between the two countries serve as a foundation for further strengthening relations. He also spoke positively about the development of ties with Iran in trade, politics and culture, and expressed appreciation for Iran’s support for Turkmenistan at various international forums.

Araghchi arrived in Ashgabat on Monday for a one-day visit, leading a delegation that included representatives from Iran’s diplomatic, economic and parliamentary circles.
