Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Monday received Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, who arrived in the country on a visit, according to the Turkmen state media.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the current state of Turkmen-Iranian relations and prospects for their further development. The Head of state also noted that Iran is one of Turkmenistan’s important trade and economic partners and that cooperation in this area is developing effectively. The meeting also underscored the importance of cultural and humanitarian ties based on the historical, cultural and spiritual affinity between the peoples of the two countries.

Later that day, Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov also held talks with Araghchi at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ashgabat. The sides discussed key issues on the agenda of Turkmen-Iranian cooperation, both bilaterally and within regional and international organizations. They also reviewed regional and international issues and emphasized the importance of maintaining active dialogue between the two countries’ foreign ministries and further deepening cultural and humanitarian ties.
