Turkmenistan's Chairmanship in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in 2019 is successful, Sergei Lebedev, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, CIS Executive Secretary, told journalists ahead of the meeting of the CIS Plenipotentiaries Council on 19 June, Belarusian Telegraph Agency BelTA reports.

“Turkmenistan is doing well during its Chairmanship in the CIS. Over the past six months, a big number of important events under the country's Chairmanship have been held in Turkmenistan and outside its borders. I can name the forum of scientific and creative intelligentsia Turkmenistan and the meeting of the CIS Heads of Government Council in Ashgabat on 31 May," Lebedev said.

Turkmenistan will also chair the 82nd meeting of the CIS Economic Council in Minsk on Friday, at which the deputy prime ministers of the CIS countries are expected to sign a number of documents in the field of innovation, intergovernmental standardization, healthcare, antitrust, and development of power engineering and the chemical industry.

The Economic Council is the main executive body that ensures the implementation of the socio-economic agreements adopted within the framework of the CIS.

The CIS Foreign Ministers Council and the CIS Heads of State Council meetings will be hosted by Ashgabat in early October.
