Turkmenistan Develops Cooperation in Renewable Energy

An international meeting entitled “The Importance of International Cooperation in the Development of Renewable Energy” was held in Ashgabat on Thursday.

The forum was attended by representatives of the country’s ministries of energy, foreign affairs, education, agriculture and the environment. The event was also attended by specialists from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), OSCE, UNDP and the World Bank.

The presentations of the participants focused on the processes of developing Renewable Energy Development Plan for Turkmenistan until 2030, preparing a report on the prospects of this industry in the country, as well as implementing projects in the field of renewable energy sources (RES) together with international organizations and donors.

The participants also discussed the development of the regulatory framework and the involvement of the private companies in the renewable energy sector.

Experts say Turkmenistan has favorable conditions for the use of solar and wind energy, building up the potential of the green economy.

Turkmenistan has been successfully cooperating with international organizations to exchange experiences and introduce best international practices in this area.

Turkmenistan became a full member of IRENA in October 2018.
