Turkmen President Starts Two-Day Visit to Singapore

In an effort to boost bilateral trade and economic relations between Turkmenistan and Singapore, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov starts his two-day official visit to the Southeast Asian nation on Monday.

The two countries are expected to sign a set of intergovernmental and intersectoral documents designed to strengthen the legal framework of Turkmen-Singaporean relations. The island city-state will also host Turkmen-Singapore business forum and an exhibition of products made in Turkmenistan.

The forum will be attended by Singaporean manufacturers of equipment for the oil and gas, chemical, energy, agricultural and food industries, and the representatives of construction, shipbuilding, engineering, transport, communications, trade and banking companies. Turkmenistan will be represented by government members and the members of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan.

During the forum, the Singaporean side will be acquainted with the economic development programs and trade and investment policies of Turkmenistan. The participants will discuss the transition to a digital economy in the communications, industry, transport and logistics sectors, and explore the possibilities of establishing cooperation between business circles of the two countries.

Diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and Singapore were established on September 12, 1996. In June 2019, the deputy foreign ministers of the two countries held bilateral political consultations.
