Farmer Durdymyrat Yazhanov grows orchards of fruits on the leased 6,5 hectares of land in Ak Bugday etrap of Ahal velayat, at the coast of Karakum River.
The farmer, over a year and a half, developed the desert area for gardening, planting about two thousand fruit trees including peach, apple, plum and cherry. The farmer cultivates potato, eggplant, bell pepper, and corn in the row spacing between orchards. Each free section or slope of hill is used for planting gourds.
Before planting potatoes, the soil structure is improved by growing legumes on them, such as beans and fodder crops.
The banks of the Karakum River are strengthened by mulberry plantations. 1,5 thousand mulberry trees are now growing on them. Another thousand year-old seedlings will expand the mulberry plantation this fall.
