Turkmen Delegation Holds Talks at International Organizations in Geneva
The delegation of Turkmenistan headed by the Deputy Chairman of the Migration Service of Turkmenistan met with the Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Antonio Vitorino.

The delegation of Turkmenistan headed by the Deputy Chairman of the Migration Service of Turkmenistan held separate meetings with the Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Antonio Vitorino and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi at the UN Office in Geneva on Wednesday.

During the meeting with Mr. Vitorino, the parties noted with satisfaction a high level of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UNHCR.

The High Commissioner in turn expressed his appreciation to Turkmenistan for the work done to reduce stateless persons, while noting that the experience of Turkmenistan is a good example for other states. The High Commissioner also noted that the recent decision of the President of Turkmenistan to grant citizenship of Turkmenistan to a group of 863 people is an important milestone and deserves an international recognition.

The next day, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN office in Geneva held talks with the newly appointed Director-General of the UN office at Geneva Tatiana Valovaya in the Palace of Nations of Geneva.

During the conversation, the Director-General was acquainted with the priority positions of Turkmenistan at the 74th Session of the UN General Assembly among which the issues related to neutrality, peace and trust, preventive diplomacy, stable development, as well as the work and initiatives realized in the area of transport, ecology, humanitarian aspects, including the issues of the refugees and elimination of the statelessness.
