Turkmenistan, UN Discuss Customs Controls
The State Customs Service of Turkmenistan currently operates 6 customs administrations and 51 customs posts.

Turkmenistan's State Customs Service hosted a meeting with the regional representative of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Central Asia Ashita Mittal, the Customs Service announced Thursday.

Ashita Mittal praised the active participation of the customs service in the UNODC customs capacity-building project and the Global Container Control Programme, jointly created by UNODC and the World Customs Organization (WCO). Turkmenistan joined the program in 2009.

The parties also discussed a Plan of Practical Measures (Road Map) for the further development of cooperation with Turkmenistan for 2019–2021, which was signed in July 2019.

The State Customs Service of Turkmenistan, formed in November, 1991, currently operates 6 customs administrations and 51 customs posts. Depending on the features of the function performed at the location of customs posts, customs control and customs clearance of goods passing through the border of Turkmenistan is carried out by the Ashgabat city and Ahal, Balkan, Lebap, Dashoguz and Mary velayat departments. Turkmenistan is a member of the World Customs Organization.
