President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov intends to pay an official visit to Japan on October 21-23.
At a session of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan on October 18, Deputy Prime Minister, Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan (MFA) Rashid Meredov informed the Head of State about the preparations for the planned state visit of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Japan, which is scheduled for next week.
Turkmenistan established diplomatic relations with Japan in April 1992. A reliable basis for bilateral partnership is the established solid regulatory framework, which includes a large package of interstate, intergovernmental and intersectoral documents.
High-level contacts played an important role in the development of Turkmen-Japanese relations. The official and working visits of Turkmen President to Japan in 2009, 2013 and 2015 were significant events in the history of interstate dialogue.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe paid an official visit to Turkmenistan in October 2015. Following the results of meetings and negotiations of the visit, the parties signed a package of bilateral documents.
Turkmen-Japanese cooperation is also successfully developing at the regional level, including in the format of the Central Asia + Japan Dialogue.
In the context of bilateral trade and economic relations, Japan is one of the main investment partners of Turkmenistan. Currently, the countries successfully implement joint long-term projects. In this regard, the activities of the Turkmen-Japanese and Japanese-Turkmen economic committees are important.
Turkmen Foreign Minister also noted that the corresponding Program for the upcoming visit of the Government delegation of Turkmenistan to Japan was developed, during which it is planned to sign a number of documents.
