Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted a meeting with the Regional Coordinator of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for Central Asia Zeynal Hajiyev, the Ministry announced Monday.
The parties discussed the priority vectors of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the IOM, including the implementation of joint plans and preparation of the programs for 2020.
In the light of internationals realities and challenges, the interlocutors stated the necessity of coordinated actions aimed at the resolution of global migration issues, including the assistance to the migrants in emergency situations, as well as prevention and countering of human trafficking.
The parties exchanged views on the vital initiatives of Turkmenistan in the area of assistance to migrants and stateless persons. They underlined the necessity of further holding of special trainings and seminars with the involvement of international experts.
The parties expressed hope for further development of international cooperation in the area of migration.
The same day, the IOM Regional Coordinator also held talks with officials at the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan.
According to the Migration Service’s press release on Monday, the parties noted the great positive experience of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the IOM. The interlocutors exchanged views on the prospects and possibilities of partnership, discussing a number of priority areas, migration issues, the fight against human trafficking and other security issues were highlighted.
At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed confidence on expanding the productive partnership between Turkmenistan and IOM.
