Turkmen Delegation Participates in First Global Refugee Forum
The forum gathered the heads of several states, international organizations, experts, representatives of non-governmental organizations, as well as representatives of enterprises and companies.

Delegation from Turkmenistan headed by the Chairman of the State Migration Service participates in the First Global Refugee Forum, which takes place on December 17–18 at the UN Geneva office.

The UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grande, Advisor to the Federal Council, and Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation Ignazio Cassis spoke at the opening ceremony of the forum in Geneva.

Presidents of the Republic of Turkey and Costa Rica, the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Deputy Prime Minister of Ethiopia and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany also gave speeches at the opening ceremony of the forum.

Turkmen delegation spoke at the plenary session of the forum, noting the particular importance of the work being carried out in this direction and expressed the country's full commitment to its obligations in connection with accession to fundamental international documents and UN Conventions.

Turkmen delegation noted the significance of the adopted Ashgabat Declaration following the International Conference held in Ashgabat in 2012 by the Government of Turkmenistan, together with the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and called on the international community and host governments of refugee countries to expand their capacity to assist and support refugees and implement obligations arising from the Ashgabat Declaration.

The implementation of measures and the adoption of measures consistent with the goals and objectives of the General Development, in turn, will expand cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.

Turkmen delegation also had a meeting with the Director General of International Organization for Migration (IOM) Antonio Vitorino on the sidelines of the Forum.

The sides exchanged views on the implementation of joint projects, particularly of the regional Advance Passenger Information system (API) project.
