Turkmenistan Establishes International Electric Projects Department
Zerger power plant will be the main source of electricity for the power transmission line that will run to Afghanistan.

In order to timely and successfully construct the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) electricity transmission line, the International Electricity Projects Department in the TAP direction was created within the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan.

In this matter, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov relieved the Minister of Energy of Turkmenistan Myrat Artykov from his duties and appointed him as the head of the new department. Temporary execution of the duties of the Minister of Energy was entrusted to the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Charymyrat Purchekov.

The TAP Department will also control other international projects in the electric power sector.

In January 2018, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan and the Turkish Çalik Holding A.Ş on cooperation in the implementation of the project for the construction of the TAP power transmission line.

The groundbreaking ceremony of the new energy bridge was held in February 2018 with the participation of the Heads of State and Government of Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. At the same time, the signing of the TAP Power Line Agreement between the governments of the countries participating in the project took place.
