Meetings were held on Monday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and at the Mejlis (Parliament) of Turkmenistan with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Somalia in Turkmenistan (with residence in Ankara) Jama Abdullahi Muhammed. During the meetings, the Ambassador presented his credentials to the Turkmen side.
At the beginning of the talks, the head of the Mejlis Gulshat Mammedowa congratulated the diplomat on his appointment to a responsible post and wished him success in developing friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.
The Ambassador thanked for the warm welcome and noted he considers it a great honor to be the Plenipotentiary of Somalia in Turkmenistan.
The diplomat emphasized the interest of his country in the development of bilateral trade, business, cultural and humanitarian cooperation, including in the field of tourism and sports.
During the meeting at the Turkmen MFA, the parties expressed the interest of Turkmenistan and Somalia in establishing the long-term cooperation in various fields of mutual interest.
The diplomats underlined the importance of high-level visits and cooperation between the external policy agencies of the two countries in further development of bilateral ties.
Being the first Ambassador of Somalia in Turkmenistan, Jama Abdullahi Muhammed said he will apply all his efforts for the stable development of bilateral relations.
Somalia, a country in western Africa, gained independence in 1960. The country has population of over 12 million and the longest coastline on Africa's mainland.
