The 78th meeting of the Interstate Commission on Water Coordination (ICWC) of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS) was held in a video conference format on Friday.
At the meeting, the participants approved the volumes of water withdrawals for Central Asian countries from Syr Darya and Amu Darya during the growing season of 2020 and the predicted mode of operation of reservoir cascades in these rivers.
The heads of the Syr Darya and Amu Darya regional water associations gave their final reports on the results of using water limits during the 2019-2020 growing season on the river basins.
The parties also reviewed the progress of the respective countries in implementing the activities arising from the Joint Communiqué adopted at the Summit of Heads of Founding States of the IFAS, held on August 24, 2018 in the city of Turkmenbashi.
The Protocol was adopted following the results of the 78th ICWC meeting.
The Turkmen side was represented by a delegation led by the Chairman of the State Committee for Water Resources of Turkmenistan.
