Uzbekistan Railways JSC, a national rail carrier of Uzbekistan, organized regular scheduled movement of a high-speed freight train to Afghanistan.
The train departs from Tashkent and arrives in the border city of Hairatan in northern Afghanistan. A part of the freight train is formed in the capital and is supplemented by wagons formed in the regions along the route, the Uzbek company said in a press release issued on April 24.
According to the rail carrier, previously, a cargo from Tashkent reached Afghanistan within 5-6 days. A new high-speed freight train can deliver goods from Tashkent to Hairatan station in 2 days. The train runs three times a week.
The first high-speed freight train was sent to Afghanistan in April 16. Since then, four trains consisting of a total of 218 wagons with export-oriented Uzbek products have been dispatched.
