The ministers of agriculture of Central Asian countries and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) held a conference via a video link on Tuesday.
During the video conference, the heads of state agencies of Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan responsible for agriculture reported on the development of agriculture and measures to ensure uninterrupted food production in their countries.
The participants also exchanged views on measures taken by the ministries of agriculture of regional countries to mitigate the negative impact of the coronavirus pandemic on food security.
The FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for Europe and Central Asia Vladimir Rakhmanin and the FAO Subregional Coordinator for Central Asia Viorel Gutu presented the FAO report on agricultural development and food security in Central Asia.
The report noted the need to maintain and use sustainable instruments of cooperation between the agricultural and food sectors of Central Asian countries.
Turkmen delegation in turn briefed on the main directions of the state policy in the field of agriculture and food security. The participants also noted the positive experience of Turkmenistan in preventing the spread of coronavirus infection through preventive measures taken to strengthen phytosanitary and veterinary control at the state borders of the country.
