Turkmen, Azeri, Kazakh Ports Discuss Joint Measures Against COVID-19 Pandemic

Turkmenbashi, Baku, Aktau and Kuryk ports, located on the Caspian Sea coast, discussed joint measures to combat the COVID-19 pandemic in a video conference meeting on Wednesday.

The meeting, held at the initiative of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport and Embassy of Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan, gathered representatives of Baku International Sea Trade Port, Aktau International Sea Trade Port and Port of Kuryk.

The Turkmen Ambassador Mekan Ishanguliyev underlined the importance of cooperation among Caspian states during COVID-19 pandemic and highlighted the crucial role of strategically important Middle Corridor in mitigating the impact of the pandemic.

Deputy Director-General of the Port of Baku, Mr. Vahid Aliyev noted that the Port operates in a 24/7 intensive regime and is constantly being disinfected. Aliyev then familiarized the meeting participants with the measures taken at the Baku port in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and noted that the port shared its experience with the ports of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.

The parties also discussed such topical issues as establishing electronic exchange of information between the ports, intensification of cooperation in epidemiological and customs cooperation, freight transport and synchronization of the activities among the ports on quarantine issues.
