A webinar on the compilation of a satellite tourism account was held on Friday under the joint project of the UNDP and the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan, UNDP Turkmenistan said in a press release.
Representatives of State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan, Ministry of Economy and Finance of Turkmenistan, Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan, Central Bank of Turkmenistan, State Customs Service of Turkmenistan, State Migration Service of Turkmenistan, “Türkmenhowaýollary” (Turkmenistan Airlines) Agency took part in the discussions.
“The aim of today's round table was to present international standards for compiling a tourism satellite account according to the System of National Accounts 2008 (SNA2008) and recommendations for its compilation in Turkmenistan,” the UNDP said in a statement.
To measure the contribution of tourism to a country's economic production, as well as progress in tourism development within the country itself, tourism direct gross domestic product is used by the Tourism Satellite Accounts (TTA) conceptual framework, according to the press release. The UN Statistical Commission has adopted this conceptual framework.
An international expert from Austria, Peter Hackl, Candidate in Physics and Mathematics, Associate Professor in Statistics with over 40 years of experience in statistics, presented an overview of international standards for compiling a tourism satellite account according to the SNA 2008 and recommendations for its preparation in Turkmenistan.
