The foreign ministers of Turkmenistan and Qatar stressed that relations between the countries reached a qualitatively new level.

Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov on Monday held a telephone conversation with Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani.

According to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry’s Monday press release, the foreign ministers noted the high level of bilateral cooperation in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian fields, and emphasized the commitment of both countries to further strengthening cooperation across a wide spectrum.

The sides stressed that Turkmenistan and the State of Qatar have reached a qualitatively new level of relations. The parties exchanged views on the possibilities for the further development of bilateral partnership, taking into account the existing multifaceted potential.

The officials noted a significant role of the joint Intergovernmental Commission, designed to promote the practical implementation of the agreements reached, diversify and build up productive cooperation in the trade and economic sphere, strengthen business contacts, and stimulate investment activity.

The foreign ministers particularly considered topical regional and international issues, including the consolidation of joint efforts to counter the novel coronavirus pandemic. The diplomats stated that considering the complex global situations, the popularization of effective mechanisms of scientific diplomacy is becoming relevant.

In a telephone conversation on July 29, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani had exchanged views on bilateral political-diplomatic, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian relations.

Rashid Meredov had also held a meeting with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani in Doha in March this year.
