The Intergovernmental Turkmenistan-Kazakhstan Commission on Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation on Thursday held an extraordinary session in Ashgabat with the participation of the heads of ministries and departments of Turkmenistan and the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin, who arrived in Turkmenistan, TDH news agency reports.
The meeting participants discussed the progress in the implementation of the agreements reached during the previous meetings of the Commission, and the possibilities of expanding cooperation in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.
Particular emphasis was placed on the prospects for cooperation in the oil and gas, transport and communications sectors, which are of particular importance for both Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan, according to the report. A vivid example of successful partnership in these areas is the construction of the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway, recognized as the "golden" link of the North-South transport corridor.
The participants noted that the favorable geographical position of the two countries necessitated further development of cooperation on the formation of important transport and transit corridors, which will help to bring economic and trade cooperation between the Central Asian countries and neighboring regions up to a qualitatively new level.
The officials noted that despite the negative impact of the global pandemic the interstate trade turnover is steadily growing, which indicates the great potential of bilateral cooperation.
Expressing the commitment of Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan to centuries-old good-neighborly relations, the members of the Commission discussed and outlined a number of concrete steps to diversify business ties in relevant areas.
