Turkmenistan, Afghanistan Strengthen Bilateral Ties
Foreign ministers of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan noted the successful promotion of multifaceted transport and energy projects.

Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov on Sunday held online talks with Acting Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Mohammad Hanif Atmar.

According to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry’s statement, the ministers discussed key issues of bilateral cooperation in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres.

The officials particularly noted the successful promotion of multifaceted transport and energy projects, including the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) power transmission lines and fiber-optic communication line. The parties noted that the implementation of these projects will make an important contribution to the socio-economic development of not only the countries participating in these large-scale projects, but also the entire region.

The foreign ministers exchanged views on a number of issues on the regional and international agendas and stressed the need to strengthen cooperation in the face of global challenges.

Last Wednesday, Turkmen delegation took part in the signing ceremony of the package of documents in the Afghanistan’s capital of Kabul. The documents are aimed at promoting the further implementation of joint infrastructure projects, including the construction of the TAPI gas pipeline, TAP power transmission lines and fiber-optic communication line, and railways.
