UIET Attends FAO Webinar on Aquaculture
The online meeting highlighted the need to strengthen both national and regional cooperation and partnerships in fisheries and aquaculture.

The Subregional Office of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in cooperation with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan on Monday held a webinar on the topic "State of the fisheries and aquaculture industry - Azerbaijan". From the Turkmen side, the organizer was the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection.

According to the Monday statement by Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan (UIET), heads and specialists of sectoral ministries and departments of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey and Uzbekistan were invited to participate in the event. The Turkmen delegation included representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection, the Ministry of Finance and Economy and the Department of Fisheries of the UIET.

The online meeting highlighted the need to strengthen both national and regional cooperation and partnerships in fisheries and aquaculture, and to increase the participation of the private sector (traders, investors, suppliers, etc.) in the effective governance and adoption of strategic decisions.

In terms of entrepreneurship, the webinar was aimed at facilitating private sector participation in regional programs.

The webinar consisted of a series of web-based briefings and discussions. The webinars will be organized monthly for each of the seven countries.

The purpose of these events is to create a forum for workshops, discussions, exchange of experience and to establish a network of professional contacts among representatives of key stakeholders from the countries and provide them with updated information on the state of fisheries and aquaculture. This initiative will assist in updating or preparing the first National Aquaculture Sector Overview (NASO).
