Turkmen President Holds Working Meeting on Ensuring Food Abundance
Turkmenistan will continue to support the entrepreneurial initiative in production of import-substituting and export-oriented products.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on Thursday held a working meeting. The agenda of the meeting included the implementation of state Program of development of agricultural complex, the transition to a digital system and ensuring food security.

During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Esenmurat Orazgeldiyev, Minister of Agriculture and Environmental Protection Magtymguly Bayramdurdiyev and Minister of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations Orazmyrat Gurbannazarov reported on the activities in agriculture, agro-industry complex and on provision of food abundance in the country.

In this regard, the Head of State focused on the necessity to fill the markets and shops of the country with basic commodities, especially with food products, which have to be sold to the population on affordable price.

The Chairman of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan (UIET) Dovran Hudayberdiyev reported on the activities carried out by the private sector to ensure food abundance.

The UIET head noted that in January-September 2020 the growth rate for the production of agricultural and food products in comparison with the same period of the previous year amounted to 131.2%.

Hudayberdiyev reported on the success of Turkmen private sector in poultry and animal husbandry. Particularly, he noted that new poultry farms were commissioned and that the construction of largest livestock complex in the region is underway in Mary velayat, which in the future will contribute to the supply of dairy products to the market. The UIET Chairman also reported on the activities of private farmers of the country in providing the domestic market with fruits and vegetables.

In addition, Deputy Prime Minister Chary Gylyjov reported to the Head of State on measures to implement state programs, in accordance with which UIET members construct and commission livestock and poultry complexes, increase the livestock population and volume of meat, dairy production.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the UIET members have built 138 greenhouses equipped with modern, including water saving technologies, and continue construction of 147 similar facilities.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed that it is necessary to continue to support the entrepreneurial initiative in production of import-substituting and export-oriented products and expanding their range.

Turkmen President then instructed Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Secretary of the State Security Council Chary Amanov to keep under strict control matters related to ensuring food security, the sufficient supply of stores and markets with daily food products and their prices.
