Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov took part in a yearly meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of Commonwealth of Independent States held in a video conference format on Friday.
According to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry’s press release, the meeting focused on issues of economic cooperation in the CIS, including taking into account the epidemiological situation in CIS member countries and in the world.
During the meeting, Minister Meredov confirmed Ashgabat's commitment to cooperation within the CIS, especially on the implementation of the Strategy for Economic Development of the Commonwealth for the period up to 2030. In this regard, special emphasis is placed on the development of multilateral transport links, the promotion of sustainable transport and transit corridors along the North-South and East-West routes.
Turkmen Foreign Minister expressed Ashgabat’s interest in the development of cooperation in such areas as the agro-industrial complex, mechanical engineering, oil and gas processing, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, the service sector, and the humanitarian field.
The initiative of Turkmenistan to declare 2021 the "Year of Architecture and Urban Development in the CIS" was also highlighted. In May this year, at a meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth, the Turkmen side signed a Decision on the relevant Action Plan. The participants were informed about the activities planned to be held in Turkmenistan on archite cture and urban planning next year.
The meeting participants also discussed the priority areas of cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere, including the implementation of joint projects in the fields of science, culture and sports.
Following the meeting, the officials approved the Action Plan for the implementation of the first stage (2021-2025) of the CIS Economic Development Strategy for the Period up to 2030, The Concept for Interregional and Cross-Border Cooperation of the CIS Member States for the Period until 2030 and the Action Plan for its Implementation, and the Plan of Priority Actions in the Field of Humanitarian Cooperation of the CIS Member States for 2021-2022.
