Kazakhstan Intends to Purchase Natural Gas From Turkmenistan
In January-May of this year, Turkmenistan extracted around 30 billion cubic meters of natural gas and exported more than 14 billion cubic meters of it.

Kazakhstan is considering the possibility of purchasing natural gas from Turkmenistan for its capital city of Nur-Sultan, Delovoi Kazakhstan newspaper reported on Wednesday with reference to information of the Kazakh Energy Ministry.

"Regarding Turkmen gas, we inform you that at present no decision has been made on this issue, negotiations are underway with the Turkmen side," Kazakh Ministry of Energy said in a material published on the Electronic Government portal.

According to the Ministry, the gasification of the capital will for now be carried out at the expense of Kazakh gas.

"In 2021, it is planned to supply gas through the Saryarka gas pipeline in the amount of about 300 million cubic meters," the Ministry noted.

During his visit to Turkmenistan in September, the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin announced that the country was considering the possibility of purchasing Turkmen gas for the domestic market.

Turkmenistan has the world’s fourth largest proven natural gas reserves. In January-May of this year, the country extracted around 30 billion cubic meters of natural gas and exported more than 14 billion cubic meters of it.
