Top Turkmen Diplomat Participates in CIS Foreign Ministers Council Meeting
CIS foreign ministers discussed the results of joint activities over the past period and outlined priority areas of cooperation for the next year.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov participated in a meeting of Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States held under the chairmanship of Uzbekistan in a video conference format on Thursday.

According to the Turkmen Foreign ministry’s press release, the meeting participants discussed the results of joint activities over the past period and outlined priority areas of cooperation for the next year. The foreign ministers discussed regional and international security, deepening cooperation in the field of healthcare, science, and culture.

During the meeting, The CIS foreign ministers considered the texts of two statements, namely, the Joint Statement of the Heads of the CIS Member States on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the UN and the Joint Statement of the Heads of the Member States on Cooperation in the Field of International Information Security.

The plan of multi-level inter-ministerial consultations within the framework of the CIS for 2021 was also considered during the meeting.

Turkmenistan stands for the multifaceted cooperation within the CIS and the need to improve interaction at all levels, taking into account modern challenges and realities, Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in the statement.

Following the meeting, the CIS foreign ministers agreed on a number of joint documents, including the draft Joint Statement of the CIS Heads States on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the UN and the Joint Statement of the Heads of the Member States on Cooperation in the Field of International information security, Plan of multi-level inter-ministerial consultations within the framework of the CIS for 2021, as well as the Decision to declare 2022 the Year of Folk Art and Cultural Heritage in the CIS, 2023 - the Year of the Russian language as a language of interethnic communication.
