Turkmen President Receives Newly Appointed Afghan Ambassador
Turkmen President and Afghan Ambassador exchanged views on the priority areas of bilateral cooperation.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on Tuesday received the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to Turkmenistan Khan Wali Khan Basharmal, who presented his credentials to the Head of State.

According to the TDH news agency’s report, the officials exchanged views on the priority areas of bilateral cooperation, including trade, economic, humanitarian and cultural spheres. At the same time, the sides paid special attention to the implementation of agreements reached at the highest level, as well as major joint infrastructure projects.

Effective relations between the two countries are actively developing in trade-economic, fuel-energy, transport-communication spheres. In this regard, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that the favorable location of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan is of great importance for the implementation of regional projects on the formation of multimodal transit and transport corridors.

During the meeting, the diplomat also stressed that the neighboring country sincerely values traditionally friendly relations with Turkmenistan and fully supports the constructive foreign policy pursued by the Turkmen Leader, which is an important factor in ensuring peace, security and stability in the region.

In this regard, the role of the Lapis Lazuli corridor, created within the framework of the Agreement signed between Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey was noted in the meeting. The corridor is expected to increase the volume of trade between the countries of Central and South Asia and the European states, and thus giving a new impetus to the development of interregional trade and economic relations.

At the end of the meeting, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Afghan Ambassador Khan Wali Khan Basharmal expressed confidence that relations between the two countries would continue to develop successfully, relying on the inviolable traditions of friendship, brotherhood and good neighborliness that have developed over centuries.
