Turkmenistan Attends Dialogue of High-Ranking Women of Central Asia

Chairperson of the Mejlis (Parliament) of Turkmenistan Gulshat Mammedova on Wednesday took part in the first video conference meeting organized by the UNDP's Regional Bureau for Europe and the CIS (RBEC) and the United Nations Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) on the establishment of the Dialogue of high-ranking women in Central Asia.

According to the TDH news agency’s report, Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations, Director of the RBEC Mirjana Spoljaric-Egger and Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Central Asia, Head of UNRCCA Natalia German opened the conference. The officials emphasized the importance of a new project aimed at strengthening the role of women in solving issues related to ensuring sustainable development, maintaining peace and security in the region.

The meeting participants discussed the concept of the Initiative for the creation of the Dialogue in terms of its political, economic and social significance, and exchanged views on possible areas of cooperation.

According to the report, the officials paid special attention to the practical implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, supported by all UN member states, as well as to the Women, Peace and Security Agenda.

This year marks 20 years since the adoption of the UN Security Council Resolution, which for the first time secured the crucial role of women in ensuring and maintaining peace, as well as 10 years since the creation of the UN-Women structure.
