Turkmenistan, UN ESCAP Discuss Cooperation Priorities

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov on Thursday held online talks with the Executive Secretary of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), UN Under-Secretary-General Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana.

The meeting participants highly appreciated the current level of cooperation between Turkmenistan and ESCAP, in particular, in such key areas as energy, statistics, trade and transport, migration management and natural disaster risk reduction, Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in its Thursday press release.

The officials confirmed the commitment of the Government of Turkmenistan to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In this regard, Turkmen side announced a number of initiatives to expand partnership with ESCAP aimed at resolving issues of social, economic and environmental nature in the countries of Central Asia and neighboring regions.

The meeting discussed joint actions taking into account the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM).

The meeting participants also considered key aspects of interaction within the framework of the UN SPECA, opportunities for expanding cooperation in the field of statistics and trade, in particular, through the introduction of experience in the field of cross-border paperless trade on the ESCAP platform.
