Vice-Premier of Turkmenistan Shamuhammet Durdyliyev reported to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on preparations for the celebration of the 140th anniversary of Ashgabat and the program of celebrations and events dedicated to the date.
The program includes festive celebrations, ceremonies of commissioning of new facilities and residential buildings, the 20th international exhibition titled "White City - Ashgabat", concerts, exhibitions, creative contests, forums, sport competitions and horse racing, the country’s official media reports.
The Turkmen President noted that on the occasion of the Day of Ashgabat and the celebration of its 140th anniversary, 400 new buses will hit the road in the capital. The Head of State added that all buses running on intracity routes will serve passengers free of charge on this day.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also noted that the capital is growing dynamically, its borders are expanding, and the urban population is increasing. In this regard, the Turkmen President proposed to give symbolic names to the first babies born on May 25.
"It will be symbolic to give the first boy, who will be born on 25 May the name Paytagt or Ashgabat, and the first girl the name Merjen or Maya,” President Berdimuhamedov said.
The Head of State also addressed specific instructions to give gifts to families of the newborn babies.
Having signed the submitted Resolution on program of celebrations, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov instructed to keep under strict control the implementation of the document.
