President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a Resolution on simplifying the visa regime for UN staff, the country’s official media reported on Sunday.

According to the signed document, from March 2, 2021, foreign citizens holding UN passports are allowed to enter Turkmenistan for up to 30 days without a visa.

The UN passport holders are also allowed to cross the country's territory in transit for 30 days.

Foreign citizens who are employees of the UN or its specialized agencies accredited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, as well as their family members, are exempted from obtaining a visa during the period of work in Turkmenistan.

The document instructs the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to notify the United Nations about the new visa regime for UN staff.

The document also instructs the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the State Migration Service, and other relevant ministries and departments, together with the Ministry of Adalat (Justice), to prepare and submit to the Cabinet of Ministers proposals for amendments and additions to the legislation arising from the Resolution within a month.
