Zarif Says Iranian Businesses Show Great Interest in Turkmen Market

The President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on Thursday received the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif. During the meeting, the Head of State and his guest discussed key aspects of the Turkmen-Iranian cooperation in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres.

The Iranian Foreign Minister confirmed the interest of the Iranian side in participating in important international projects, the implementation of which will contribute to the intensification of the regional and global trade and economic ties.

The diplomat also stressed that the promising Turkmen market attracts the attention of many investors and large companies from around the world, adding that the Iranian business circles show great interest in expanding long-standing partnerships and establishing closer contacts with state and private structures of Turkmenistan.

The officials emphasized the need to intensify the activities of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Iranian Commission on Economic Cooperation, and regularly holding bilateral meetings at various levels.

Within the framework of his visit to Turkmenistan, the Iranian Foreign Minister also held talks with the Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The sides discussed matters related to the Caspian Sea, including an analysis of existing legal documents and preparations for the Sixth Caspian Summit.

The meeting also focused on the potential of such regional transport corridors as the Lapis Lazuli Corridor and the Caspian Sea - Black Sea international transport route, and the possibility of Iran’s participation in the implementation of these corridors, according to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry’s statement.

Following the talks, the foreign ministers of the two countries signed the Program of Cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran for 2021-2022
