Ashgabat Hosts Conference on Turkmenistan's International Cooperation
The international conference took place at the new Congress Center in Ashgabat.

A solemn meeting of the International Conference “Global Cooperation of Independent, Neutral Turkmenistan for the sake of Peace and Trust” was held on Thursday at the new Congress Center with the participation of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The conference was also attended by the deputy chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers, the heads of the Parliament, military and law enforcement agencies, ministries and sectoral departments, the capital's administration, public organizations, the media, and higher educational institutions. The heads of diplomatic missions and offices of international organizations in Turkmenistan also attended the opening of the new buildings.

The Head of State expressed confidence that neutrality as a political and legal mean is also in demand today in combining efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, effectively countering global challenges – international terrorism, organized crime, drug trafficking.

In recent years, Turkmenistan has consistently proposed specific measures to enhance cooperation, speaking at the UN with draft General Assembly Resolutions on strengthening international peace and security in the fields of sustainable energy, transport, ecology, environmental protection, and in a number of other areas, the Turkmen President noted.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also outlined the importance of joint international efforts to combat the coronavirus pandemic and eliminate its consequences as an urgent task for this year.

The Conference also featured video messages from the Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Helga Schmid, Executive Secretary of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Sergei Lebedev, Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Olga Algayerova, and the Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission of the United Nations for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana.

The ceremony of signing international documents took place within the framework of the international conference.

The signed documents are Memorandum of Cooperation between the Government of Turkmenistan and the UNESCO for 2021-2023; Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Turkmenistan and the International Energy Agency on cooperation in the energy sector; Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan and the Office of the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities on language and cultural diversity; Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Healthcare and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan and the UNICEF to promote the improvement of maternal and child nutrition in Central Asia and the Caucasus by hosting and leveraging a regional platform for capacity development and cooperation in nutrition.
