President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov agreed to strengthen cooperation between the countries in the fuel and energy sector and instructed the relevant state structures to work out the issue of supplies of natural gas, electricity and liquefied gas from Turkmenistan to Kyrgyzstan, the Heads of the countries said in a Joint Statement issued on Monday following the talks in Ashgabat.
The Presidents reaffirmed the importance of developing and strengthening the Turkmen-Kyrgyz political dialogue, trade-economic relations, and expanding the legal framework of bilateral cooperation.
The Heads of State confirmed that deepening cooperation in the transport field is of key importance in the development of international trade. The sides noted that mutual participation in different projects on the formation of international transport corridors will contribute to the strengthening and expansion of economic cooperation, the development of transport infrastructure and the growth of transit cargo flows through the transport communications of the two states, ensuring the shortest and most efficient transportation of products to global markets.
The parties agreed to create favorable conditions for the cargo carriers of Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan, including by unifying the tariffs of consular fees for issuing visas.
The Heads of State considered the possibilities of supplying mineral fertilizers from Turkmenistan to Kyrgyzstan and noted the great potential of cooperation between the two countries in the field of agriculture.
The Presidents also decided to instruct the relevant structures of the two countries to work out the implementation of investment projects for the construction of Turkmenistan resort and recreational sector in Kyrgyzstan and trading houses in the two countries.
According to the official website of the President of Kyrgyzstan, during the talks, the Heads of States reached fundamental agreements on a number of issues, including the creation of a Kyrgyz-Turkmen Development Fund with an authorized capital of $100 million to support joint business projects and the supply of Turkmen gas and electricity to Kyrgyzstan in the autumn-winter period.
President Sadyr Japarov’s official visit to Turkmenistan lasted from June 27 to June 28.
