President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a meeting with his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon at the Palace of Nations in Tajikistan’s capital Dushanbe on Friday.
The Turkmen Leader arrived in Dushanbe to participate, as an honored guest, in the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the SCO’s establishment, the state media of Tajikistan reports.
At the Dushanbe International Airport, the Turkmen President was greeted by the Prime Minister of Tajikistan Kokhir Rasulzoda and other government officials.
The meeting between Turkmen and Tajik Leaders focused on the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation.
The Presidents discussed the further development of relations in areas of industry, agriculture, transport and cargo transportation, the use of Turkmen seaport for the transportation of goods to Tajikistan, and also stressed the need to expand cooperation in the cultural- humanitarian spheres.
During the talks of regional issues, the sides considered current situation in Afghanistan and stressed their support for the early achievement of peace in the country.
The SCO is an international organization founded by the leaders of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan in 2001. Now the organization also includes India and Pakistan. Tajikistan chairs the SCO in 2021.
