People's Council Convenes on Turkmenistan’s 30th Independence Anniversary
The meeting’s agenda included discussions on the achievements of Turkmenistan over the past 30 years of independence and further priority tasks.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov chaired a meeting of the Halk Maslahaty (People's Council) chamber of Milli Gengesh (National Council), the bicameral parliament of the country, held in Ashgabat on Saturday. The meeting was dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the country's independence.

The meeting was attended by elected members of the Halk Maslahaty, deputies of the Mejlis, heads of government agencies, political parties and public organizations, governors of velayats, etraps and cities, honorary elders, as well as representatives of all segments of the population, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in its statement.

The agenda of the national event included discussions on the achievements of Turkmenistan over the past 30 years of independence and the priority tasks of further comprehensive development of the country. Significant decisions aimed at further prosperity of the state and improving the standard of living of the people were also made during the meeting.

In his speech, the Turkmen President noted with satisfaction the tremendous achievements of the country over the years of sovereign development. Noting the importance of the significant date, the Head of State said this anniversary date will become another confident step forward on the chosen creative path in the modern history of the country.

The Turkmen Leader emphasized formation of a solid foundation for strong economic development and outlined priority directions of the national policy, according to the statement.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also signed decrees on awarding state awards to distinguished citizens on the occasion of the anniversary of independence of Turkmenistan.
