The European Union is interested in strengthening regional ties in Central Asia, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said during a meeting with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon in Brussels.
Borrell added that the issues of strengthening regional ties will be the focus of the talks at the upcoming meeting of the foreign ministers of the EU and Central Asian countries in Dushanbe, according to the press service of the Tajik Leader.
During the meeting, the interlocutors expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation in the energy sector, including the implementation of the CASA-1000 project (a project to create the power transmission system from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to Afghanistan and Pakistan) and the formation of a green economy, emphasizing the need for their further expansion.
During the discussion of security issues, the parties focused on strengthening security and stability in Tajikistan, in Central Asia in general and in Afghanistan.
The Tajik President also held talks with the Head of the European Council Charles Michel, during which the parties emphasized the importance of implementation of the new European strategy for Central Asia.
