Vice-Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and Viorel Gutsu, Director of the Subregional Office of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for Central Asia, in an online meeting on Thursday expressed their readiness to step up activities to open the FAO office in Turkmenistan.
The officials discussed key aspects of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the FAO, according to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.
The Turkmen side highly assessed the organization's activities and expressed its intention to further develop effective cooperation aimed at using world practices in the field of sustainable agricultural development and improving measures to maintain food security.
The parties also exchanged views on the development and implementation of joint projects and programs and expressed their readiness to cooperate in opening the FAO representative office in Turkmenistan.
The Director of the FAO Subregional Office was also invited to take part in the International Conference "Politics of Peace and Trust - the Basis of International Security, Stability and Development", which will be held on December 12 this year in Ashgabat.
The FAO is a specialized agency of the UN that leads international efforts to improve nutrition and food security. With over 194 member states, the FAO works in over 130 countries worldwide.
