Iran to Build 400 kV Power Transmission Line in Turkmenistan
The top Turkmen diplomat said the new 400 kV power transmission line in Turkmenistan will export electricity to Iran.

Iranian contractors will build a 400 kV power transmission line from the border town of Sarakhs to the city of Mary in Turkmenistan, the Tehran-based Mehr news agency reported on Wednesday with reference to the statement of the Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov following the 16th meeting of the Joint Turkmen -Iranian Commission on Economic Cooperation.

Meredov said the meeting with the Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran Rostam Ghasemi, who is also the co-chairman of the Joint Turkmen -Iranian Commission, resulted on certain agreements on different issues, adding that some of the issues were postponed for further consideration in future meetings.

The top Turkmen diplomat stated the new agreement on the construction of a 400 kV power transmission line in Turkmenistan was reached with the aim of exporting electricity to Iran.

The parties also entered into agreements to accelerate the transportation of goods on road and rail sections, including at the borders of Sarakhs, Incheburun and Lotfabad, and to provide a zone in Iran’s Shahid Rajaei port to Turkmenistan for the transit of Turkmen goods through Iran.

The Turkmen Foreign Minister also informed about the agreement on the media sector, in particular on the opening of an office of the IRNA news agency in Ashgabat and the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Radio and Television Organization of Iran and the State Committee on Television and Radio Broadcasting of Turkmenistan.

To date, Turkmenistan and Iran signed 236 documents on cooperation, the head of the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan said, adding that three new protocols were added to the package.

The 16th meeting of the Joint Turkmen-Iranian Commission was held on October 26-27 in Tehran.
